Asset declarations in Ghana – so important
Asset declarations are essentially a hide and seek or a cache-cache game with governmental officials and government (better known as the people). An article about Ghana’s asset declaration system is a reminder of how important this concept is to all of us. This review of the pitfalls of asset declarations from the declarant’s position to the reviewers is a reminder that declarations are one part of the anti-corruption fight. Declarants need to know that there will be oversight and this article provides a very clear description of the process. And, a reminder of what is at stake for government, that illegal assets are one element of finding corruption in government.
Let’s hope that the Ghana declarants and government take the asset declaration process seriously, as it does seem that there is oversight.
