UK, France and Switzerland – Stepping up
Last week the UK, France and Switzerland announced that they would work together, using their “wide-reaching anti-bribery legislation with jurisdiction to prosecute criminal conduct that occurs overseas, if there is a link to the prosecuting country.” Previously, as I noted earlier the US Department of Justice proclaimed their unwillingness to move forward on cross-border prosecutions. This meant that there would be less support by the US and a need for other countries to step up and ensure that money launderers and other criminals realize that they are not free to commit cross-border crimes.
This is an important statement and it is good to see it being shared widely.
Of course, the next steps are the most important, with the hope that they will be able to bring forward cases and ensure that criminals are jailed.
