Corruption – Putin’s allies feeling the heat

This article describes, and visually shows, the present ongoing protests throughout Europe against Putin allies. In Slovakia, Georgia, Serbia, and Turkey the protests are tied to corruption as well as general dissatisfaction with governments.

One comment clearly articulated the situation, “Pekka Kallioniemi, a non-resident research fellow at the International Center for Defense and Security, on X (formerly Twitter) on March 15: "Massive protests against corruption, kleptocracy and Russian interference today in Belgrad, Budapest and Bucharest. Europe is waking up!"

What is clear is that though there have been many color revolutions, and much anti-corruption support, the support to truly anchor anti-corruption legally in all of these societies requires ongoing work and support and push on the part of the public. Governments, in more autocratic leaning governments, back track on corruption reforms and seem to think that people don’t care about corruption.

As I always ask, what should be done in these cases? And in these cases, the citizens from these countries loudly express their dissatisfaction with their governments and are there to protest and require more from their governments, and they continue to do so  Though there are fewer donors able to support, this should be heartening, as the work they have supported is important to all the people in these countries and they too should continue to support this during this volatile period.
